The Long road to justice

Ballarat's Marita Murphy was a victim of sexual abuse when she was very young. In addition to seeking justice against her abusers, Marita created a documentary about her story titled You Be the Judge. Sadly, her abusers were found not guilty. In addition to ongoing trauma related to her abuse, Marita was hit with a legal bill of more than $100,000. She has become a passionate advocate for survivors and ensuring victims are heard.

Marita is shocked by the high number of people who are survivors of abuse. "We've got people coming out with these horrendous stories regularly," Marita said. "The stories that I hear would make your hair curl."

Incredibly, Marita secured funding from the Ballarat Catholic Diocese to fund an updated documentary. She hopes it will inspire others to seek justice.

Marita spoke to Jacob on About Time for Justice's weekly live on Wednesday night. LISTEN HERE.
